Merv Merzoug, a Director at SierraConstellation Partners’ New York office, has over a decade of experience both as an entrepreneur and as an investment management professional, with particular focus on high-yield and distressed fixed income markets.
Prior to joining SCP, Merv was the Head of Strategy and Marketing for ARCM, a quantitative fixed income hedge fund, where he was integrally involved in determining the strategic direction of the firm and interfacing with some of the world’s largest hedge fund investors. Prior to ARCM, Merv was the co-founder of London Plane Equities (LPE), a biotech firm he helped form to pursue polymer applications in industries as diverse as consumer products to defense. Merv joined LPE from the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA), Abu Dhabi’s sovereign wealth fund, where he helped lead the turnaround of the firm’s fixed income and alternative investments businesses. He began his career at Bridgewater Associates, a large global macro hedge fund, where he was part of an internal turnaround team.
Merv received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Economics from Hamilton College (with honors) and his MBA from Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. In addition to his work, Merv is passionate about education and minority representation in corporate America. To that end, he serves on the Board of Trustees at the Marvelwood School, a boarding preparatory school in Connecticut. Merv is also an active member of the Toigo Foundation and Management Leadership for Tomorrow (MLT), both of which are non-profit organizations whose aim is to increase minority representation in finance and in the broader corporate world. Merv is originally from Morocco and grew up in New York City.
- Interim CFO of a DARPA funded biotechnology firm focused on chemical burn treatments for armed forces personnel. Constructed a complete financial model to arrive at enterprise value from which the firm raised critical equity financing. Led negotiations for private placements with individual and institutional investors.
- Interim CFO of a women’s haircare brand seeking to recapitalize. Designed and led all workflows related to finance including, but not limited to, creating a complete cashflow model, enterprise valuation, debt load analysis and optimal working capital strategy.
- Interim CFO of a biotechnology consumer products business focused on the skincare segment. Helped lead the firm through the FDA approval process, ultimately securing valuable vouchers and approvals to sell product in the United States. Oversaw significant cost structure, working capital improvements and recapitalization.
- Analyzed and provided debt financing of a private equity backed middle market trucking and logistics business that was facing a challenging environment. The company was ultimately able to raise additional equity capital after the debt financing, providing valuable resources that facilitated the firm’s strategic goals. This ultimately unlocked considerable value for debtholders, sponsors and employees.
